Substance Use Disorder
Substance use disorder is a pattern of alcohol or drug use that continues despite the problems it causes at home, at work, or in relationships. It rarely shows up alone. Most of the people we see are also carrying anxiety, depression, trauma, or chronic stress, and the substance use has become a way of coping with what's underneath.
At DK Counseling Services, we treat substance use alongside those co-occurring conditions. Rather than addressing the drinking or the drug use in isolation, we work on both at the same time: reducing the behavior while treating the anxiety, depression, or trauma that drives it. This approach is supported by decades of research showing that treating co-occurring conditions together leads to better, longer-lasting outcomes.
Therapy may include cognitive behavioral therapy to identify triggers and change thought patterns, DBT skills for managing urges and regulating emotions, and family work to rebuild trust and communication at home. For teens and young adults, we also work closely with parents so the whole family is equipped to support recovery.
If substance use has become part of your story or your child's, you don't have to untangle it alone. We serve individuals and families throughout Alpharetta, Roswell, Milton, and Johns Creek.
